Homebound Seniors Vaccine Program Information

The Millburn Health, Welfare and Human Services Department, through its “Home Bound Vaccination Initiative Program” is trying to collect the names and contact information of homebound residents, in an effort to provide the COVID-19 vaccinations directly to them in their homes.

The Department considers you homebound if: 

  1. You are unable to leave your home due to medical reasons (illness or injury) and have a caregiver or home health aide at home that must assist you on a regular basis. 
  2. It is unsafe for you to attend doctor’s appointments outside of your home and leaving the house would require considerable and taxing effort.

If you reside outside of Millburn, it is advised that you contact your township health department since each municipality is coordinating similar efforts for its own homebound residents.

State Health Department COVID-19 Vaccine Hotline

The NJ COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center has announced a SENIOR-SPECIFIC phone number for inbound calls to reschedule existing appointments, register to the 65 + waitlist or to schedule an appointment at other NJVSS sites. The phone number to call is (856) 249-7007.

In addition to inbound calls, the call center is making outbound calls to seniors age 65+ who are registered on the NJVSS waitlist to assist in scheduling appointments as they become available. These appointments will be at the following locations:

  • Gloucester mega-site
  • Inspira Health (Millica Hill and Vineland)
  • Walmart (60 sites)
  • Shop Rite (64 sites, TBA)

Senior Bus Availability

Once you have a vaccination appointment, and if you are a senior citizen who does not have transportation to the site at the Sears Building in the Livingston Mall, the Millburn Township Senior Bus is available to you by calling (973) 564-7076, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 and 8:15 a.m. to reserve your ride. The Millburn Senior Bus is available to bring you to your appointment up until 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. You must be able to enter and exit the bus by yourself or with the assistance of an aide.  Otherwise, residents may contact the Essex County Special Transportation System at (973) 737-7200.
